Medicare Advantage Plans, also known as Medicare Part C, are an alternative to traditional Medicare. They are offered by private insurance companies and approved by Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans must offer at least the same coverage as Original Medicare, Part A, and Part B.
Still, many Medicare Advantage plans offer additional benefits such as prescription drug coverage and dental, vision, and fitness memberships. Some Medicare Advantage plans also offer coverage for long-term care.
You will likely pay different out-of-pocket costs with a Medicare Advantage plan than with Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans are an alternative way to get your Medicare benefits, and you may be able to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan even if you have a pre-existing health condition.
There are several types of Medicare Advantage plans, including Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), and Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS) plans.

Choosing a Medicare Advantage Plan can be tricky – so many factors to consider. One of the most common mistakes is not understanding their coverage and how it compares to traditional Medicare. For example, people may be under the impression that an HMO plan has a lower premium than elsewhere (even though copays/coinsurance are still applicable).
However, over time you’ll find yourself paying more if your medical usage increases significantly; essentially, what happens is that you’re forced to pay for healthcare services used outside hospital outpatient departments or doctor’s offices (outpatient Department). Choosing a Part D plan can avoid this problem, as there is no cost-of-care for services used outside these departments.
In the long run, you’ll save money by choosing a Part D plan over an HMO plan – even though the latter may have a lower premium. So be sure to research and understand your coverage before making a decision. If you’re still unsure which plan is right, consider talking to a licensed Medicare agent. They can help you compare plans and determine which is best for your needs.
I didn't have a lot of time to research all of the different insurance plans on the market. I was extremely pleased with the professionalism of my contact agent, Gina, who took the time to make comparisons between my current plan and the one she thought was most advantageous for me. I did take her advice and switched to a new plan that offered more perks and suited me. I would highly recommend Senior Healthcare Advisors and their Agents to anyone who is looking for an insurance agent that they can trust.
